# Asset Tracking

> Track equipment, vehicles, and tools across jobs and technicians so you always know where your assets are and what condition they're in.

Beyond parts and consumables, field service businesses own assets that need tracking — vehicles, specialised tools, test equipment, and client-installed hardware. Vynta's asset tracking gives you a register of every asset, its location, its condition, and its service history.

## What Counts as an Asset

An asset is anything with a serial number or a lifecycle longer than a single job:

* Vehicles and trailers
* Power tools and testing equipment
* Installed equipment at customer sites (HVAC units, panels, meters)
* IT equipment issued to technicians

## Setting Up Asset Tracking

<Steps>
  <Step title="Register your assets">
    Go to **Assets** and click **Add Asset**. Enter the name, serial number, category, purchase date, and current location (warehouse, van, or customer site).
  </Step>

  <Step title="Assign to a technician or location">
    Link the asset to a technician's van or a customer's site. When the asset moves, update the location.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Record maintenance and inspections">
    Log service events, inspections, and repairs against each asset. Vynta tracks the full history.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Asset Health Dashboard

The asset health view shows:

* Total assets by category
* Assets currently on-site vs in the warehouse
* Upcoming inspections or maintenance due
* Assets with recent issues or repairs
* Depreciation tracking (if configured)

## Linking Assets to Jobs

When a work order involves a specific piece of equipment, link it to the job. This creates a trail: every time that equipment is serviced, inspected, or repaired, the history builds up in one place.

<Note>
  Assets at customer sites are visible in the customer portal, so clients can see the equipment you maintain for them and its service history.
